The boundary problems considered are generated by the equation \[ - (py')'+qy=\lambda wy \tag{1} \] on \(J=(a,b)\) with \(-\infty\leq a<b\leq\infty\), where the coefficients satisfy \(p^{-1}\), \(q\), \(w\) \(\in L_{\text{loc}}(J,\mathbb{R})\) and \(p>0\), \(w>0\) almost everywhere on \(J\) and \(\lambda\) stands for the spectral parameter. Let \(\{a_r:r\in \mathbb{N}\}\) be a decreasing sequence converging to the endpoint \(a\), and \(\{b_r:r\in \mathbb{N}\}\) an increasing sequence converging to the endpoint \(b\); here, \(\mathbb{N}=\{ 1,2,3,\dots \}\) and \(a<a_r<b_r<b\). Denote \(J_r=(a_r,b_r)\). The main result is as follows. Assume that the spectrum \(\sigma(S)\) of a selfadjoint realization \(S\) of (1) on \((a,b)\) is not bounded below. Denote \(S_r\) any selfadjoint realization on the interval \((a_r,b_r)\) with the spectrum \(\sigma(S_r)=\{\lambda_n(S_r):n\in N_0\}\), then \[ \{\lambda_n(S_r)\}\rightarrow-\infty \text{ as } \;r\rightarrow\infty, \text{ for \;each} \;n\in N_0. . \]
