The article is concerned with nonlinear two-point boundary value problems for second-order ordinary differential equations of the form \(-(k[(u')^2]u')'+ q(u^2)u= f(x)\). Under certain positivity assumptions on the functions \(k\) and \(q\) it is proved by monotone operator methods that a unique solution in \(\mathring H^1\) exists. Furthermore, the sequence of solutions of the linear problems \(-(k[(u_{n-1}')^2]u_n')'+ q(u^2_{n-1})u_n=f\) is shown to converge to this solution in \(\mathring H^1\), and an error bound is provided. Based on this iteration, a finite difference scheme is proposed and applied to several examples.
