According to the \textit{Grothendieck theorem}, if \(X\) is compact, and \(Y\) is metrizable, then each relatively countably compact subspace of the space \(C(X,Y)\) of continuous maps from \(X\) to \(Y\) with the topology of pointwise convergence is relatively compact. The paper generalizes this theorem for \(C(X,Y)\) endowed with the topology of uniform convergence on a family of subsets of \(X\), where \(Y\) is a complete uniform space. The techniques are then used to generalize Grothendieck's theorem for \(C(X,\mathbb R)\) endowed with the set-open topology. In order to facilitate the results, a new topological game is introduced and investigated giving rise to a class of topological spaces of the Grothendieck type.
