The authors consider a domain \(Q=\omega \times ]-l,l[\), where \(\omega \) is a smooth and bounded domain of \(\mathbb R^{n-1}\) and \(l>0\). The domain \(Q\) is separated in \(Q_\varepsilon^+\) and \(Q_\varepsilon^+\) by the rough surface \(\Gamma^\varepsilon= \{x\in Q\), \(x_n=\varepsilon^\kappa g(x'/\varepsilon)\}\), where \(g\) is a periodic, positive and Lipschitz continuous function from \(]0,1[^n\) to \(\mathbb R\) and \(x=(x',x_n)\). The authors then consider the elliptic equation \(-\text{div}(A^\varepsilon\nabla u_\varepsilon)=f\) in \(Q\backslash\Gamma_\varepsilon\) with transmission conditions on \(\Gamma_\varepsilon\). Homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions are imposed on \(\partial Q\). Here \(A^\varepsilon\) is a periodic, bounded and uniformly elliptic matrix. The purpose of the paper is to describe the asymptotic behaviour of the solution of \(u_\varepsilon\) when \(\varepsilon \) goes to zero. Uniform estimates are first proved on the solution. Then the authors build extensions operators. The asymptotic behaviour of \(u_\varepsilon\) is finally established distinguishing between the cases \(\kappa =1\), \(\kappa >1\) and \(0<\kappa <1\).
