In the summer of 1886, Felix Klein was teaching the theory of equations from Galois' advanced viewpoint at the University of Göttingen. Klein employed his heuristic methodology in teaching mathematical theory by gradually advancing sets of examples. Nevertheless, it must have been difficult to follow Klein, and the immediate success of his teaching Galois theory remains questionable. However, Klein's lecture notes and his engagement in his faculty provided the means for a period of stability in the teaching of algebra at Göttingen.
