The paper considers a class of quasi linear elliptic equations with boundary blow-up, i.e., the equation \(-\Delta_p = b(x)u^m-a(x)u^q\), \(x \in\Omega\) with the boundary condition \(u =\infty\) for \(x \in\partial\omega\),where \(\Omega\in R^N\) is a bounded and smooth domain and \(-\Delta^p\) stands for the well-known \(p\)-Laplacian. Using the super and sub-solution arguments and certain comparison principle, the following basic result is proven. Let \(a(x)\in C(\bar \Omega)\) be a positive function, and assume that \(b\in L^\infty (\omega)\) and \(0 < m < p-1 < q\). Then the problem has at least one non-negative solution. Moreover, this problem has a minimal non-negative solution and a maximal non-negative solution.
