The author studies Anosov actions of nilpotent Lie groups on smooth closed manifolds. Let \(\phi\) be an Anosov action of a connected Lie group \(G\) on a smooth closed manifold \(M\). The author calls \(\phi\) good, if there is an Anosov element of \(\phi\) whose stable and unstable distributions are invariant under the derivative of each element of \(G\). It follows that every central Anosov action is good. He proves that if \(G\) is a connected simply-connected nilpotent Lie group acting on a smooth closed manifold via a good Anosov action and if the non-wandering set of the action is the entire manifold, then the closures of the stable strong leaves and the closures of the unstable strong leaves coincide. It follows that there is an equivariant fibration of the manifold onto a homogeneous space of \(G\) such that the fibers are the closures of the leaves of the strong foliation. The author also shows that the fundamental group of a smooth closed manifold \(M\) grows exponentially, if \(M\) has a jointly integrable good Anosov action of a connected Lie group with exponential volume growth.
