The article is devoted to mathematical techniques in the homogenization of periodic structures, particularly within the Orlicz-Sobolev framework. The authors introduce and analyze gradient Young measures and their two-scale counterparts under nonstandard growth conditions. The study is motivated by the need to address problems where classical Sobolev spaces are insufficient for modeling solutions, necessitating the use of Orlicz spaces. The authors explore integral functionals of nonconvex energy types with heterogeneous periodic microstructures, using two-scale convergence methods. Particularly, they obtain a rigorous characterization of gradient Young measures and their two-scale variants in the Orlicz-Sobolev space and prove integral representation theorems for functionals under homogenization. They also extend existing results in classical Sobolev spaces to settings with more general growth conditions, guided by Young functions.
