In 1981 [J. Fac. Sci., Univ. Tokyo, Sect. I A 28, 415-437 (1981; Zbl 0505.10011)], \textit{D. Zagier} introduced a technique which extends the Rankin-Selberg convolution to (not necessarily-holomorphic) automorphic forms on \(SL_2(\mathbb{Z})\), the full modular group, which do not decay exponentially at \(i\infty\) (the single cusp of \(SL_2(\mathbb{Z})\)). \textit{D. Lieman} [Duke Math. J. 69, 219-242 (1993; Zbl 0779.11021)] has produced a different version of Zagier's method. Zagier comments (op. cit., p. 420) that ``the statement of the theorem can be generalized to the case where \(\Gamma\) is a congruence subgroup of \(SL_2(\mathbb{Z})\)''. The purpose of the present article is the statement and detailed proof of such a generalization, for congruence subgroups ``reduced at \(i\infty\)'', that is \(\Gamma\) contains translation by one. As Zagier predicted, the proof involves consideration of a separate Eisenstein series and a separate growth condition at each cusp. Thus, it is somewhat complicated. As an example of the method, the author presents a generalized ``Maass-Selberg relation'' [cf. \textit{T. Kubota}, Elementary theory of Eisenstein series, Kodansha/Wiley, Tokyo/New York (1973; Zbl 0268.10012), Theorem 2.3.1].
