The author proves a diagonal theorem for matrices with coefficients in noncommutative groups and deduces from it noncommutative versions of Phillips lemma, of the Brooks-Jewett-Nikodým convergence theorem and of the Banach-Pettis theorem on continuity of pointwise limits of continuous homomorphisms.
