Let \(K\) be a field, \(R\) a subring of \(K\) and \(Z : = \text{Zar} (K/R)\) the set of valuation rings of \(K\) containing \(R\). The sets \(\{\text{Zar} (K/R[E]) | E\) finite subsets of \(K\}\) define an open basis for a certain topology on \(Z\). Take the sheaf of rings \({\mathcal O}\) given by \({\mathcal O} (U) = \bigcap V\), where \(V\) runs in an open set \(U\) of \(Z\). If \(R\) is noetherian and \(K\) is a finitely generated extension of the fraction field of \(R\) then the local ringed space \((Z, {\mathcal O})\) is the projective limit of all proper integral schemes over \(\text{Spec} R\) with rational function field \(K\).
