A survey is given on mirror symmetry. It is described how classical constructions from singularity theory enter into mirror symmetry. The survey concentrates on the aspect of the mirror symmetry in which linear differential equations with complex coefficients play a central role: The mirror correspondence for smooth toric varieties with a numerically effective anticanonical bundle. Basics of quantum cohomology are recalled. Quantum \(D\)-modules are described. A detailed description of the mirror of a toric Fano variety is given. It is shown how to define its associated Gauß-Manin system, the partner for the quantum \(D\)-module. The definition and some results on non-commutative Hodge structures is given. It is explained how they appear in mirror symmetry.
