Using a boundary integral method, the authors investigate antiplane electroacoustic wave fields in an unbounded piezoelectric medium with a tunnel opening which has a system of electrodes. The problem is solved for two configurations: the direct piezoeffect, when the steady wave diffraction on the tunnel opening generates an electric potential difference on the electrodes, and the inverse piezoeffect when the difference of potential on the electrodes is the source of wave excitation. Due to the singular behaviour of electromechanical quantities at electrode edges, the mathematical problem reduces to the solution of a system of boundary integro-differential equations with singular kernels, solved numerically by the method of quadratures. Concrete examples for PZT-4 piezoceramics with different electrode configurations are considered, numerical results are obtained, and the corresponding quantities of interest are plotted. In particular, it is shown that the inertial effects may influence the solution in both the direct and inverse problem. The authors point out the possibility of easy generalization of the method to include more than one opening with different geometries.
