The authors show that a sufficient condition for a subset E in the Heisenberg group (endowed with the Carnot-Carathéodory metric) to be contained in a rectifiable curve is that it satisfies a modified analogue of Peter Jones' geometric lemma. The estimates given in this paper improve those of [\textit{F. Ferrari} et al., Rev. Mat. Iberoam. 23, No. 2, 437--480 (2007; Zbl 1142.28004)], allowing for any power \(r<4\) to replace the power 2 of the Jones-\(\beta\)-number. This complements in an open ended way the work of the authors in [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 368, No. 7, 4585--4620 (2016; Zbl 1350.53044)], where they showed that such an estimate is necessary, however with the power \(r=4\).
