The authors present a unified framework for the convergence analysis of discretization methods for the initial value problem corresponding to the equation: \(y^{(q)}(t)=f(t,y(t))\); in particular for \(q=2\), \(q=4\). The concept of optimal consistency proposed by the authors [BIT 22, 314-330 (1982; Zbl 0496.65036)] is extended for \(q\geq 1\), giving two-sided error bounds.
