The theorem of \textit{G. Pall} [Am. Math. Mon. 40, 10--18 (1933; JFM 59.0938.02)] is the statement that for any integer \(s\geq 6\) any natural number \(n\geq 1\) is a sum of exactly \(s\) positive squares, except the numbers \(1,2,\dots,s-1\) and \(s+e\), where \(e\) belongs to a certain finite exceptional set. The author has obtained an analogous result for the representation of \(n\) as a sum of \(s\geq 14\) positive cubes; the exceptional set is explicitly given. It is conjectured that the theorem can be extended to higher powers.
