The author discusses the quadratic matrix equation \(AX+XB+XFX+C=0\) which is closely associated with the matrix \(M=\left( \begin{matrix} -B\\ C\end{matrix} \quad \begin{matrix} -F\\ A\end{matrix} \right).\) The equation and the corresponding matrix M have been extensively studied for some classes of matrices A, B, C and F. The author extends the class of equations which allow finite algorithms by introducing a class of K-symmetric matrices, i.e. matrices N with \(KN=N^ TK\) where K is an 2m \(\times 2m\) nonsingular skew-symmetric matrix. A new algorithm for solving the equation when M is K-symmetric is suggested. According to the author, the new algorithm is especially advantageous when M is a sparse matrix.
