Spectral forms and de-Rham Hodge operator

From MaRDI portal

One of the goals of Alain Connes' noncommutative geometry is to reformulate all geometric quantities purely in terms of spectral data. Within this program, the notion of a spectral triple plays a central role. A classical Riemannian manifold can also be understood through its associated Hodge-Dirac spectral triple. The noncommutative residue, also known as the Wodzicki residue [\textit{M. Wodzicki}, Invent. Math. 75, No. 1, 143--178 (1984; Zbl 0538.58038); Lect. Notes Math. 1289, 320--399 (1987; Zbl 0649.58033); \textit{V. Guillemin}, Adv. Math. 55, No. 2, 131--160 (1985; Zbl 0559.58025)], is one of key concepts defined purely via spectral data. Over the years, there has been a sustained effort to reformulate classical geometric quantities in terms of the noncommutative residue on the Hodge-Dirac spectral triple. The introduction of this paper provides an overview of these developments, and this work can be seen as a continuation of this line of research.\N\NGeneralizing the notion of spectral torsion introduced by \textit{L. Dąbrowski} et al. [Commun. Math. Phys. 405, 130 (2024; Zbl 1541.58008)], the authors introduce some \(2\)-, \(3\)- and \(4\)-linear functionals of differential one forms in terms of a noncommutative residue and de Rham-Hodge operators with torsion. They called these multilinear functionals spectral forms, as indicated in the title. The explicit computation of these spectral forms are provided to relate them to two forms, torsions of the linear connection and four forms.\N\NThe computations presented in the paper are given with sufficient detail and are not difficult to follow. However, for the benefit of readers who focus mainly on the introduction, it might have been better to state the assumptions \(n\) even and \(m = \frac n{2}\) also in the introduction, as is done later in the article.
