Splitting theorems and a problem of Müller

From MaRDI portal

Let \(R\) be an associative ring with identity. The authors prove the following main results: i) Let \(R\) be a right continuous ring which satisfies at least one of the conditions: 1) if \(e^2=e\in R\) and \(e\neq 1\), then either \(r(eR)\neq 0\) or \(\Hom(eR,(1-e)R)\neq 0\); 2) \(R=\bigoplus^n_{i=1}e_iR\), where \(\{e_1,\dots,e_n\}\) is a complete set of orthogonal primitive idempotents; 3) \(\text{Soc}(R_R)\) is right essential in \(R\). Then a) \(R=Z_2(R_R)\oplus K\) (rigth ideal direct sum), where \(Z_2(R_R)/Z(R_R)=Z(R/Z(R_R))\) is a right singular ideal of \(R/Z(R_R)\) and \(K\) is a right continuous regular ring with identity; b) \(Z_2(R_R)\) is the sum of all ideals of \(R\) which are ideal essential extensions of the radical \(J(R)\); c) the maximal regular ideal of \(R\) is right essential in \(K\); d) under conditions 2) or 3), \(K\) is a semisimple Artinian ring. ii) Every faithful finitely generated right \(R\)-module generates \(\text{Mod-}R\) if and only if for any integer \(n\geq 1\) every faithful cyclic right \(M_n(R)\)-module generates \(\text{Mod-}M_n(R)\).
