Stabilizer group of set ideals

From MaRDI portal

Let \(X\) be an infinite set. Recall that a subset \(\mathcal{I}\) of the power set of \(X\) is said to be an \textit{ideal} if it satisfies the following:\N\begin{itemize}\N\item[1.] If \(A,B\in \mathcal{I}\), then \(A\cup B\in\mathcal{I}\) (finite additivity) .\N\item[2.] If \(A\in\mathcal{I}\) and \(B\subseteq A\), then \(B\in \mathcal{I}\) (heredity).\N\end{itemize}\NThe \textit{stabilizer group} of \(\mathcal{I}\) is defined to be\N\[\NS_{\{\mathcal{I}\}} = \{ f\in S_X \mid f(\mathcal{I})=\mathcal{I} \},\N\]\Nwhere \(S_X\) denotes the symmetric group on \(X\).\N\NIn the paper under review, it seems that ideals are always assumed to be \textit{admissible}, that is, they contain all singletons. The following results are proven in Theorems 4 and 6, respectively.\N\begin{itemize}\N\item[(a)] Let \(\mathcal{I}\) be any ideal and let \(\mathcal{J}\) be a top ideal. For every \(f\in S_X\), assume that \(\mathcal{I}\cap f(\mathcal{J})\) is top in case that \(f(\mathcal{J})\not\subseteq \mathcal{I}^\perp\). Then either \(\mathcal{J}\simeq\mathcal{I}\) or \(\mathcal{J}\simeq \mathcal{I}^\perp\) whenver \(S_{ \{\mathcal{J} \}} \simeq S_{\{\mathcal{I}\}}\).\N\item[(c)] Let \(\mathcal{I}\) be a Lagrange ideal. Then the outer automorphism group of \(S_{\{\mathcal{I}\}}\) has order at most \(2\).\N\end{itemize}\NWe refer the reader to the paper for the terminology used.\N\NFor the entire collection see [Zbl 1547.65003].
