Stable solutions of a system of two connected Chua cells
Topological structure of integral curves, singular points, limit cycles of ordinary differential equations (34C05) Bifurcation theory for ordinary differential equations (34C23) Qualitative investigation and simulation of ordinary differential equation models (34C60) Stability of solutions to ordinary differential equations (34D20) General topics in optics and electromagnetic theory (78A99) Control/observation systems governed by ordinary differential equations (93C15) Lyapunov and other classical stabilities (Lagrange, Poisson, (L^p, l^p), etc.) in control theory (93D05)
The author deals with the Chua system \[ \dot v_j=(-1)^jk\cdot(v_1-v_2)-v_j(1-v_j)(2-v_j)+(2-j)i_s(t), \qquad j=1,2, \] with \(k\in{\mathbb{R}}\) and \(i_s(t)\) describes an external signal. The author shows that for all \(k\) the system has at least 3 stationary points, two of which being stable and one unstable. For \(k\in[1/3,1/2)\) the total number of stationary points equals 5 and for \(k\in[0,1/3)\) it increases up to 9. The character of bifurcations and the stability for the stationary points when \(k\) passes the critical values 1/2 and 1/3 are studied.
