Stochastic homogenisation for functionals defined on asymptotically piecewise rigid functions

From MaRDI portal

From the abstract: In this paper, the authors study the stochastic homogenization of free-discontinuity surface functionals defined on piecewise rigid functions, which arise in the analysis of fracture in brittle materials. Specifically, under standard assumptions on the density, they establish the existence of a \(\Gamma\)-limit almost surely and demonstrate that it can be represented by a surface integral. Furthermore, they characterize the effective density through a suitable asymptotic cell formula and show that it remains deterministic under an ergodicity assumption. Additionally, employing \(\Gamma\)-convergence, the authors prove that the homogenized functional defined on piecewise rigid functions can be derived from a Griffith-type model by taking the limit of vanishing elastic deformations.
