Stochastic wave equations with nonlinear damping and source terms

From MaRDI portal

Abstract: In this paper, we discuss an initial boundary value problem for the stochastic wave equation involving the nonlinear damping term |ut|q−2ut and a source term of the type |u|p−2u. We firstly establish the local existence and uniqueness of solution by the Galerkin approximation method and show that the solution is global for qgeqp. Secondly, by an appropriate energy inequality, the local solution of the stochastic equations will blow up with positive probability or explosive in energy sense for p>q.

The paper discusses existence und uniqueness of solutions of an initial boundary value problem for a stochastic wave equation with additive white noise on a bounded domain in \(\mathbb R^d\) with smooth boundary, with a nonlinear damping term \(|u_t|^{q-2}u_t\) and with a source term \(|u|^{p-2}u\). For the case \(q\geq p\) existence and uniqueness of solutions is established by using a Galerkin approximation. For the case \(p>q\) it is shown that local solutions blow up in the \(L^2\) norm with positive probability, or an associated energy goes to infinity, in finite time.
