Strong observability of time-dependent linear systems
Linear, continuous-time, finite-dimensional, time-varying control systems are considered. Definitions of observability and strong observability are given. Using algebraic methods, necessary and sufficient conditions for observability and strong observability on a given time interval are formulated and proved. The relationships to the controllability concept are also pointed out. Moreover, several remarks and comments on the observability problem for linear control systems are given. The advantage of the strong observability notion is also discussed. It should be stressed, that the strong observability conditions given in the paper require the verification of the rank of a certain observability matrix and extend the results given in the paper [\textit{R. E. Kalman}, SIAM J. Control 1, 152-192 (1963; Zbl 0145.34301)]. For the entire collection see [Zbl 0885.00052].
