Sums of unitarily equivalent positive operators

From MaRDI portal

This note is a continuation of the previous note by the same authors in the same journal [ibid. 351, No. 19--20, 761--764 (2013; Zbl 1291.47033)]. \noindent For operators \({A }\) in a separable Hilbert space, let \(\|A\|_{\, e} \) be the essential norm and \(Sp_{e} (A)\) be the essential spectrum. The authors prove the following interesting theorem: If \({A}\) is nonsingular positive operator with \(\|A\|_{\, e} \, \geq 1\) and if \(K\neq 0\) is a positive strict contraction, then \({A }\) has the series representation \(A=\sum _{n=1}^{\infty }K_{n}\), where \(K_{n} \cong K\) for every \(n=1,2,\dots\).
