Superreflexive tensor product spaces
The Banach space \(X\) is said to be superreflexive if a Banach space \(E\) is reflexive whenever \(E\) is finitely representable in \(X\). This property was introduced by \textit{R.~C. James} [Can. J. Math. 24, 896--904 (1972; Zbl 0222.46009)].\N\NThe main result shows that the following conditions are equivalent for superreflexive spaces \(X\) and \(Y\): (i) The projective tensor product \(X \widehat{\otimes}_{\pi} Y\) is superreflexive. (ii) The injective tensor product \(X \widehat{\otimes}_{\epsilon} Y\) is superreflexive. (iii) \(X\) or \(Y\) are finite-dimensional spaces. (In particular, superreflexivity behaves differently from reflexivity for the above tensor products.)
