The classification of two lines Mahavier products
Given a closed subset \(A\) of the square \([0,1]^{2}\), the Mahavier product (or generalized inverse limit) is defined as \(\varprojlim A=\{(\ldots,x_{-2},x_{-1},x_{0,} x_{1},x_{2},\ldots)\in \prod _{n=-\infty}^{\infty}[0,1]:\) for each \(n\in\mathbb{Z}, (x_{n},x_{n+1})\in A\}\).\N\NIt is well known that even for very simple sets \(A\), their Mahavier products can result intricate and interesting.\N\NIn this paper the author considers arcs \(A=L_{r,\rho}\subset [0,1]^{\infty}\), where \(0\leq r<1<\rho\leq\infty\) and \(L_{r,\rho}\) is the intersection with \([0,1]^{\infty}\) of the union of the lines, meeting at the origin and having slopes \(r\) and \(\rho\). Denote by \(M_{r,\rho}\) the Mahavier product corresponding to \(L_{r,\rho}\).\N\N\textit{I. Banič} et al. [Mediterr. J. Math. 20, No. 3, Paper No. 159, 24 p. (2023; Zbl 1519.54009)] proved that if \(r\) and \(\rho\) do not connect, (meaning that if \(r\) and \(\rho\) have the property that \(r^{N}=\rho^{M}\) only if \(M=N=0\), for \(M,N\in\mathbb{Z})\), then \(M_{r,\rho}\) is a Lelek fan. Using this, they can use techniques of inverse limits to construct interesting mappings from the Lelek fan into itself.\N\NLooking for the structure of \(M_{r,\rho}\), when \(r\) and \(\rho\) connect, \textit{R. Gril Rogina} [J. Dyn. Control Syst. 29, No. 4, 1525--1545 (2023; Zbl 1539.37012)], proved that, in this case, \(M_{r,\rho}\) is a fan, with top point \(v\), and there exists a countable family \(\mathcal{C}\) of Cantor fans such that (1) for each \(C_{1},C_{2}\in \mathcal{C}\), if \(C_{1}\neq C_{2}\), then \(C_{1}\cap C_{2}=\{v\}\), and (2) for each blade (i.e., a maximal arc having \(v\) as its end-point), \(L\), of \(M_{r,\rho}\), the set of points in \(L\) that belong to the closure of the end-points of \(M_{r,\rho}\) forms a harmonic sequence in \(L\).\N\NIn the paper under review, the authors complete the classification of Mahavier products of the form \(M_{r,\rho}\) by proving that if \(0<r_{1},r_{2}<1<\rho_{1},\rho_{2}\); \(r_{1}\) and \(\rho_{1}\) connect; and \(r_{2}\) and \(\rho_{2}\) connect, then \(M_{r_{1},\rho_{1}}\) and \(M_{r_{2},\rho_{2}}\) are homeomorphic.
