The density property for vector bundles

From MaRDI portal

The \textit{density property} was introduced by \textit{D. Varolin} [J. Geom. Anal. 11, No. 1, 135--160 (2001; Zbl 0994.32019)] as a precise notion for describing when a Stein manifold has a ``very large automorphism group: A Stein manifold \(X\) is said to have the density property if the Lie algebra generated by the complete holomorphic vector fields on \(X\) is dense in the Lie algebra of all holomorphic vector fields on \(X\). Examples of Stein manifolds with the density property include connected affine homogeneous spaces of linear algebraic groups (except for tori \((\mathbb{C}^\ast)^n\) and the complex line \(\mathbb{C}\)), see the recent survey [\textit{F. Forstnerič} and \textit{F. Kutzschebauch}, Anal. Math. 48, No. 2, 489--544 (2022; Zbl 1524.32023)] for more details.\N\NThe related notion of \textit{flexibility} was introduced by \textit{I. Arzhantsev} et al. [Duke Math. J. 162, No. 4, 767--823 (2013; Zbl 1295.14057)]: An algebraic variety \(X\) is called flexible if the group generated by the locally nilpotent derivations acts transitively on the regular part of \(X\). In fact, the transitivity of this action is equivalent to infinite transitivity.\N\NThe following are the two main results of this paper:\N\NTheorem. Let \(X\) be a Stein manifold with the density property and let \(\pi \colon E \to X\) be a holomorphic vector bundle. Assume there exists an automorphism \(\Phi\) of the total space \(E\) and points \(p, q \in E\) such that \(\pi(p) = \pi(q)\), but \(\pi(\Phi(p))\neq \pi(\Phi(q))\). Then, \(E\) satisfies the density property.\N\NTheorem. Let \(E \to X\) be an algebraic vector bundle over a flexible smooth affine variety \(X\). Then, \(E\) is a flexible affine variety.\N\NNote that in the special case of a trivial vector bundles, the mere holomorphic flexibility of the base space already implies the density property for the total space, see [the reviewer et al., ``A Criterion for the Density Property of Stein Manifolds, Preprint, \url{arXiv:2308.07015}, and\NMichigan Math. J. Advance Publication 1--24 (2025; \url{doi:10.1307/mmj/20236469})].
