The direct variational grid generation method extended to curves

The paper deals with an extension of the direct variational method to curves in \(R^ 3\). A new weighted-chord functional is introduced and it is positive definite at a global minimum but not everywhere convex. It is not extendable to surface grid generation using the same approach.
