The lower plus and upper plus constructions for fibered biset functors

From MaRDI portal

Let \(A\) be an abelian group. The \(A\)-fibered Burnside ring \(B^A(G)\) is the Grothendieck group of \(G\times A\) sets with finitely many \(A\)-orbits which are free \(A\)-sets. A \(\mathbb{Z}\)-basis of \(B^A(G)\) is parameterized by \(G\)-conjugacy classes of pairs \((H,\varphi)\), where \(H\) is a subgroup of \(G\) and \(\varphi\in\mathrm{Hom}(H, A)\). \(A\)-fibered \((G, H)\)-bisets and their Grothendieck groups \(B^A(G,H)= B^A(G\times H)\) are defined in a similar manner. The category of fibered bisets has a tensor product construction, which yields the \(A\)-fibered biset category \(\mathcal{C}^A_R\) over a commutative ring \(R\).\N\NIn this paper, the author introduces, for an \(A\)-fibered biset functor, the lower plus and the upper plus construction. These coincide with the similar constructions for biset functors when the fiber is the trivial group. One starts with a family \(\mathcal{G}\) of finite groups and a function \(\mathcal{S}\) such that, for all \(G, H \in \mathcal{G}\). These are related to a subset \(\mathcal{S}(G, H)\) of \(\mathcal{M}^A(G, H) =\{(L,\varphi) \mid L \le G \times H,\ \varphi\in\mathrm{Hom}(L,A)\}\), and the pair \((\mathcal{G}, \mathcal{S})\) satisfies certain axioms, such that one obtains the subcategory \(\mathcal{D}\) of the category \(\mathcal{C}^A\) of \(A\)-fibered bisets. To define the upper and lower constructions, the pair \((\mathcal{G}, \mathcal{S})\) is associated with \((\mathcal{G}, \mathcal{S}_+)\) and \((\mathcal{G}, \mathcal{S}^+)\), which the gives rise to the subcategories \(\mathcal{D}_+\) and \(\mathcal{D}^+\) of \(\mathcal{C}^A\).\N\NNext, for an \(A\)-fibered biset functor \(F\) over \(\mathcal{D}\), the constructions \(F_+\) and \(F^+\) are defined. These are fibered biset functors over \(\mathcal{D}_+\) and \(\mathcal{D}^+\) respectively. In this context there is natural transformation \(F_+\to F^+\), called the mark morphism. Its injectivity and bijectivity is studied in terms of the ring \(R\). Under the additional condition that \(F\) has a multiplicative structure, that is, \(F\) is a fibered Green functor over \(\mathcal{D}\), the author shows that \(F_+\) and \(F^+\) inherit the structure of fibered Green functors over \(\mathcal{D}_+\) and \(\mathcal{D}^+\), and the mark morphism is multiplicative. The ring of characters is defined as a fibered biset functor, and its construction \(-_+\), which is the global functor of fibered representations, is calculated. This functor corresponds to the lower plus construction applied to the character ring viewed as a fibered biset functor. It is also shown that the functor \(-_+\) related to the lower construction is the left adjoint for a restriction functor.
