The smooth classification of 4-dimensional complete intersections
A complete intersection \(X_{n}(\underline{d}) \subset \mathbb{C} P^{n+k}\) is the transverse intersection of \(k\) complex hypersurfaces of degrees \(\underline{d}=\left\{d_{1}, \ldots, d_{k}\right\} \cdot\) Regard \(X_{n}(\underline{d})\) as an oriented smooth manifold of real dimension \(2 n\), the authors consider the problem of classifying complete intersections up to orientation-preserving diffeomorphism.\N\NSullivan's conjecture organizes the classification of complete intersections: For \(n \geq 3\), two complete intersections are diffeomorphic if their Sullivan data are the same.\N\NThe Sullivan data associated to the complete intersection \(X_{n}(\underline{d})\) is the tuple\N\[\N\mathrm{SD}_{n}(\underline{d}):=\left(d,\left(p_{i}(n, \underline{d})\right)_{i=1}^{\lfloor n / 2\rfloor}, \chi\left(X_{n}(\underline{d})\right)\right) \in \mathbb{Z}^{+} \times \mathbb{Z}^{\lfloor n / 2\rfloor} \times \mathbb{Z},\N\]\Nwhich consists of the total degree \(d\) (the product of the degrees of the defining hypersurfaces), the Pontryagin classes of \(X_{n}(d)\) regarded as integers ( \(p_{i}\left(X_{n}(\underline{d})\right)=p_{i}(n, \underline{d}) x^{2 i}\), where \(x \in H^{2}\left(X_{n}(\underline{d})\right)\) is the pullback of a generator of \(H^{2}\left(\mathbb{C} P^{n+k}\right)\) ) and the Euler characteristic of \(X_{n}(\underline{d})\)\N\NPreviously, \textit{M. Kreck} [Ann. Math. (2) 149, No. 3, 707--754 (1999; Zbl 0935.57039)] proved the 4-dimensional Sullivan Conjecture when 64 divides the total degree. \textit{F. Fang} and \textit{S. Klaus} [Manuscr. Math. 90, No. 2, 139--147 (1996; Zbl 0866.57015)] proved that the conjecture holds up to connected sum with homotopy 8-spheres.\N\NThe main result of the current paper is that the Sullivan conjecture holds in complex dimension 4.
