The weak subintegral closure of a monomial ideal

From MaRDI portal

The seminormalization (resp. weak normalization) of a commutative ring \(A\) in an integral extension \(B\) is a ring such that \(\text{Spec}(B) \to\text{Spec}(A)\) is bijective and with bijective (resp. purely inseparable) residue class field extensions. In order to describe the weak normalization of the Rees ring of an ideal, \textit{L. G. Roberts} and \textit{B. Singh} introduced the weak subintegral closure of an ideal [Compos. Math. 85, No. 3, 249-279 (1993; Zbl 0782.13006)]. No general-purpose algorithms for computing seminormalizations or weak normalizations seem to be known. The authors start to address this computational problem by considering the case of monomial ideals. They prove that the weak subintegral closure of a monomial ideal is again monomial by showing that the weak normalization of a multi-graded ring is again multi-graded. Furthermore, they give algebraic and geometric descriptions of the weak subintegral closure of a monomial ideal. Thus they are able to calculate some examples of monomial ideals in two indeterminates. As an application, they give an example which shows that the (2,3)-closure in the sense of \textit{S. Oda} and \textit{K.-I. Yoshida} [Math. J. Okayama Univ. 34, 1-12 (1992; Zbl 0822.13010)] can be a proper subset of the weak subintegral closure of an ideal.
