Three inequalities that characterize the exponential function

From MaRDI portal

The following theorem is proved.\N\NTheorem. If the function \(f: \mathbb{R} \rightarrow \mathbb{R}\) satisfies the inequalities \N\[\Nf(2x) \geq f^2(x),\N\]\Nand \N\[\Nf(0)\geq f(x)f(-x),\N\]\Nfor all real \(x\), and the inequality \N\[\Nf(x) \geq 1+x,\N\]\Nfor all sufficiently small \(|x|\), then \(f=\exp\). None of the conditions can be omitted.
