This monograph is focused on 2D systems defined as discrete-time dynamical systems with two independent time variables; it also addresses 2D systems with delays, and to some extent some other variants (e.g., stochastic, event-triggered). It provides a systematic study that considers most classical analysis and control topics (stability, stabilization, performance, etc.) for these systems.\N\NMore precisely, the main topics covered, as described by the author in the preface, are:\N\N\begin{itemize}\N\item Stability and stabilization of 2D systems with state delays.\N\item Asymptotic estimation of reachable set for 2D time-delay systems.\N\item Stability analysis and observers design for positive 2D systems.\N\item Performance analysis and \(\ell_1\)-gain control of 2D positive systems with delays.\N\item Peak-to-peak performance analysis of 2D positive time-delay systems.\N\item Stability of 2D time-delay Roesser systems with Markovian switchings.\N\item Analysis and control of 2D Roesser systems with stochastic noises.\N\item Stability and stabilization of 2D Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy systems with time-varying delays.\N\item Stability and stabilization via event-triggered control of 2D singular systems with delays.\N\item Finite-region stability and dissipativity analysis of 2D singular systems with delays.\N\end{itemize}\N\NFor the potential readers that may have never heard of such 2D systems, here is a very high-level mathematical description.\N\NA {discrete-time 1D system} associates to an input \(u : \mathbb{N} \to U\) and an initial condition \(x_0 \in X\) a solution \(x : \mathbb{N} \to X\) given by \(x(i+1) = f(x(i), u(i))\) for any \(i \in \mathbb{N}\) and \(x(0) = x_0\). A {discrete-time 2D system} associates to an input \(u:\mathbb{N} \times \mathbb{N} \to U\) and a pair of boundary conditions \(x_{0\cdot} : \mathbb{N} \to X\) and \(x_{\cdot 0} : \mathbb{N} \to X\) a state \(x : \mathbb{N} \times \mathbb{N} \to X\) given by\N\[\Nx(i+1, j+1) = f(x(i, j), x(i, j + 1), x(i+1, j), u(i, j), u(i, j + 1), u(i+1, j)),\N\]\Nand \(x(0, j) = x_{0 \cdot}(j)\), \(x(i, 0) = x_{\cdot 0}(i)\) for any \(i, j \in \mathbb{N}\). A 2D system belongs to the ``general Fornasini-Marchesini class (F-M) if it is linear. Several subclasses of F-M models are of practical interest (Attasi, F-M I, Roesser, F-M II); for example Attasi models are governed by\N\[\Nx(i + 1, j + 1) = A_1 x(i, j + 1) + A_2 x(i + 1, j) - A_2 A_1 x(i, j) + B_0 u(i, j)\N\]\Nfor vector-valued state, input variables and matrices \(A_1\), \(A_2\) and \(B_0\) of suitable sizes.\N\NThis monograph also deals with 2D systems {with delays} which require a {memory} supported on a finite set \(\Lambda\) of indices \((i, j)\) in \(\mathbb{Z} \times \mathbb{Z}\) ``in the past (\(i \leq 0\), \(j \leq 0\) and \((i, j) \neq (0, 0)\)). A 2D system with delays has the general structure\N\[\Nx(i+1, j+1) = f(x|_{\Lambda + (i+1, j+1)}, u|_{\Lambda + (i+1, j+1)}).\N\]\NPlain 2D systems correspond to the special case \(\Lambda = \{(-1, 0), (-1, -1), (0, -1)\}\).
