Uncountable groups in which all large subgroups are permutably complemented
Let \(\aleph\) be an uncountable regular cardinal. A subgroup of a group of cardinality \(\aleph\) is called large if it has cardinality \(\aleph\). The paper studies groups in which every large subgroup is permutably complemented and gives conditions ensuring that every subgroup is permutably complemented.\N\NThe main results show that this conclusion holds when the group contains a large abelian normal subgroup, and also under suitable assumptions on its commutator subgroup or Hirsch-Plotkin radical. Further consequences are obtained for locally soluble, locally nilpotent and \(FC\)-groups. Finally, for soluble groups it is enough to require that every large subnormal subgroup of defect at most \(2\) be permutably complemented, provided that a large abelian normal subgroup exists; in the nilpotent case this additional assumption is unnecessary, and the group is abelian.
