Zero fibers of quaternionic quotient singularities

From MaRDI portal

Let \(V\) be a finite-dimensional vector space over a field \(F\) and let \(F[V]\) denote the ring of polynomial functions on \(V\). Let \(W\) be a finite reflection subgroup of \(\mathrm{GL}(V)\) and write \(F[V]^W\) for the subring of \(W\)-invariant polynomial functions.\N\NLet \(I\) be the ideal of \(F[V]\) generated by all elements of the form \(f - f(0)\) with \(f \in F[V]^W\). The quotient ring\N\[\NF[V]/I\N\]\Nis called the zero-fiber ring. It is naturally identified with the ring of functions of the zero fiber \(\pi^{-1}(0)\), where\N\[\N\pi \colon V \to V/W\N\]\Nis the quotient map. Understanding the dimension of the zero-fiber ring (or equivalently, the degree of the zero fiber) is an interesting problem.\N\NLet \(W\) be an irreducible quaternionic reflection group of (quaternionic) rank at least \(6\). Denote by \(N\) the number of reflections in \(W\) and by \(n\) the dimension of the quaternionic vector space \(V\). In the paper under review, the authors show that, for such a group \(W\), the zero-fiber ring admits a quotient of dimension \((g+1)^n\) where \(g=\frac{2N}{n}\), which yields a lower bound for the dimension of the zero-fiber ring. The existence of this quotient is obtained from an irreducible representation of a symplectic reflection algebra.
