The author studies triharmonic hypersurfaces of constant mean curvature in pseudo-Riemannian space forms. When the shape operator is diagonalizable, the author completely classifies the non-minimal hypersurfaces with at most two distinct principal curvatures and gives some examples of non-biharmonic triharmonic hypersurfaces. Moreover, the author shows that the hypersurfaces with at most four distinct principal curvatures must have constant scalar curvature. As a consequence, triharmonic hypersurfaces in pseudo-Euclidean spaces are minimal, which supports the generalized B. Y. Chen's conjecture. Related results in the case that the ambient space is a space form were obtained by \textit{H. Chen} and \textit{Z. Guan} [Result. Math. 77, No. 4, Paper No. 155, 17 p. (2022; Zbl 07554618); Manuscr.
