The following remarkable rigidity theorem is proved: If two Riemannian metrics on a closed connected hyperbolic manifold, (i.e. admitting some other metric with negative sectional curvature) normalized to the total volume 1, have the same unparametrized geodesics, they coincide. The statement follows from another theorem: A closed connected manifold admitting two non-proportional geodesically equivalent metrics has either a finite fundamental group or a product structure i.e. a metric, which lifts as a product metric to the universal covering space.
