In his celebrated paper [Am. J. Math. 100, 591--614 (1978; Zbl 0384.58012)], \textit{J. Vey} proved a local version of the Liouville-Arnold theorem for finite-dimensional Hamiltonian systems. In the present paper the Vey theorem is extended to infinite-dimensional systems and this version is applied to the KdV equation under zero-meanvalue periodic boundary conditions as well as to the whole KdV hierarchy.
