\textit{D. Shanks's} transformation [J. Math. Phys. 34, 1-42 (1955; Zbl 0067.286)] is redefined for certain biinfinite sequences \((c_ n)\) \(n\in\mathbb{Z}\). The block structure of Shanks's table, \textit{P. Wynn's} cross rules [Numer. Math. 8, 264-269 (1966; Zbl 0163.395)], and their extensions due to \textit{F. Cordellier} [Lect. Notes Math. 765, 36-60 (1979; Zbl 0431.41023)] are derived by the Schur-complement method. The effects of a Möbius (homographic) transformation of sequences is examinated in the case of the generalized Shanks transform. No Padé approximant theory is used for proofs.
