    The aim of the authors is to give a new inequality for the derivative of \(j_{\nu,k}\) with respect to the order \(\nu\), i.e.: \(dj_{\nu,k}d\nu\). Here \(j_{\nu,k}\) (\(k=1,2,\dots\)) stand for the positive zeros of \(J_ \nu(x)\). To this end they use a differential equation obtained some years ago by themselves [Appl., Anal. 20, 269-281 (1985; Zbl 0572.33004)], namely: \[ {{dj_{\nu,k}} \over {d\nu}}= j_{\nu,k} (L_ \nu x_ k(\nu), x_ k(\nu)), \qquad k=1,2,\dots; \quad \nu>-1. \] Here \(L_ \nu\) denotes a certain diagonal operator defined in a separable Hilbert space \(H\) with the orthonormal basis \(e_ n\) (\(n\geq 1\)) while \(x_ k(\nu)\) is the normalized eigenvector of \(S_ \nu\) given by \(S_ \nu=L_ \nu^{1/2}(V+V^*)L_ \nu^{1/2}\). Here \(V\) shows the shift operator defined as follows: \(Ve_ n=e_{n+1}\). Their result consists in \[ {{dj_{\nu,k}} \over {d\nu}}> {1 \over {j_{\nu,k}}}+(1+j_{\nu,k}^{-2})^{1/2}, \qquad \nu>-1, \] which improves the already known relation \(dj_{\nu,k}/d\nu>1\).
