Superconnections and higher index theory (Q2366290): Difference between revisions

The purpose of this paper is a heat equation proof of a Connes-Moscovici theorem concerning the computation of the pairing between the group cohomology of \(\pi_ 1(M)\) and the Chern character of the higher index of a Dirac-type operator on a smooth closed connected spin manifold \(M\). As a consequence of this result a new proof of the Novikov conjecture for hyperbolic groups is obtained.
