Let \(F\) be a multivalued map from a set \(X\) to a topological space \(Y\). The authors investigate conditions under which the family \(\{F(x) : x \in X\}\) of sets has the finite intersection property. As an application, they study the minimax problem in topological spaces whithout linear structures. Results of this paper extend and unify some of the results of the first author, \textit{X. Wu} and \textit{S. Xiang} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 182, No. 3, 756-767 (1994; Zbl 0830.54037)] and others.
