The authors chose a 5D-Kaluza-Klein type cosmological model to build an inflationary scenario as a phase transition from the off-shell matter dominated era to the on-shell. Some properties are discussed. The expansion is not adiabatic. The thermodynamic entropy is an increasing function of cosmic time for the closed universe, and, for open and flat universes it grows with ``historical'' time of the covariant theory of \textit{L. P. Horwitz} and \textit{C. Piron} [Helv. Phys. Acta 46 (1973)]. However, the choice of the source term, terms involving matter parameters like density and pressure, the geometry of higher-dimensional theory and like factors which contribute to the evolution of the universe, require subsequent study.
