This paper deals with the effect of the affine evolution \(x_t\) \((t\geq 0)\) of an ovaloid \(x(S_{d-1})=F\) in the \(d\)-dimensional space \(R_d\) as solution of the evolution equation \({\partial x_t\over\partial t}= y_t\) (\(y_t=\) affine normal vector of \(x_t\)) under the initial condition \(x_0=x\). The author refers to [\textit{B. Andrews}, J. Differ. Geom. 43, 207-230 (1996; Zbl 0858.53005)] stating that his aim is to add some considerations which had been made independently by him without previous knowledge of that paper. A different motivation for the affine evolution equation is mentioned, which comes from the notion of equiaffine inner parallel hypersurfaces as boundaries of floating bodies. The author states that this notion was proposed by G. Chakerian, as a means of considering the affine isoperimetric inequality. Formulas for the affine evolution of the three fundamental forms and some other basic affine invariants of the given hypersurface \(F\) are developed. An inequality concerning the affine isoperimetric quotient is proven, and this leads to the main result of the article, which states that the limit body must be an ellipsoid.
