Let \(X\) be a simply connected smooth manifold and let \(\Omega^*(X)\) be the commutative differential graded algebra of smooth real differential forms on \(X\). Then the Hochschild homology of \(\Omega^*(X)\) can be identified with the cohomology of the free loop space of \(X\): \[ HH_{-*}(\Omega^*(X),d)\simeq H^*(X^{S^1},\mathbb{R}).\tag{\(*\)} \] Moreover, there exist combinatorially defined Adams operations on the Hochschild-homology (and cyclic homology) of any commutative differential graded algebra. These Adams operations on \(HH_{-*}\) \((\Omega^*(X),d)\) correspond under \((*)\) to the action given by iteration of loops on \(H^*(X^{S^1},\mathbb{R})\). The paper under review is concerned with a generalization of this which also provides a new proof of the result above. We cite from the introduction: ``Our main result reads: let \(X\) be a 1-connected differentiable manifold, whose cohomology is of finite type, let \(i: Y\to X\) be a differentiable map and \(X^{S^1}_Y\to Y\) be the pullback of the free loop fibration along \(i\): \[ \begin{tikzcd} X^{S^1}_Y \ar[r]\ar[d] & X^{S^1}\ar[d]\\Y \ar[r,"i"'] & X\end{tikzcd} \] then the complex of iterated integrals which computes the cohomology of \(X^{S^1}_Y\) has a canonical decomposition -- in fact, a weight decomposition. The basic geometrical remark is that, at the level of iterated integrals, to iterate loops is nothing but a geometrical operation on the simplices over which differential forms have to be integrated''.
