We introduce some new band generated by a regular operator, its shadow. Grounding on this concept, we can easily calculate projections to the principal bands generated by a lattice homomorphism and a Maharam operator (disjoint from the band of a rank-one operator). Moreover, calculating a band projection as a limit over a directed set of elementary band projections enables us to translate the formulas that we obtain to the case of dominated operators.
