The objectives of this paper are to make the design of the Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy controller simpler and to analyze the structure of the modified Takagi-Sugeno controller. It is proposed to use two fuzzy-sets for each input variable. A linear function is chosen and used for all rule-consequents. The rule-consequents of the different rules are proportional to one another. The approach is illustrated for a linear function describing a discrete PID controller. The properties of this fuzzy controller are investigated in detail for different sets of parameters. Nonlinear characteristics of the variable gains are obtained.
