For a simple generalized Witt algebra \(W= W(A,T,\varphi)\) over a field \(F\) of characteristic 0 constructed from an abelian torsion-free group \(A\), an \(F\)-vector space \(T\), and a pairing \(\varphi: T\times A\to F\) the authors in an earlier paper [J. Algebra 193, 144-179 (1997)] introduced simple subalgebras \(L\) of \(W\) of generalized Cartan type \(S\). In the paper under review they show that for such algebras \(L\) \(H^2(L,F)\) is isomorphic to the space of skew-symmetric bilinear forms \(F\times T\to F\).
