A partially ordered semigroup \((S,\cdot,\leq)\) is called weakly commutative if for every \(a,b\in S\) there exists a natural number \(n\) such that \((ab)^n\leq bxa\) for some \(x\in S\). Furthermore, \((S,\cdot,\leq)\) is Archimedian if for all \(a,b\in S\) there exists \(m\) such that \(a^m\leq xby\) for some \(x,y\in S\). Fourteen necessary and sufficient conditions for \(S\) to be a semilattice of Archimedian subsemigroups are given. In case \(\leq\) is the equality relation on \(S\), this characterization gives the decomposition result for semigroups without partial order, due to \textit{M. S. Putcha} [Semigroup Forum 23, 1-5 (1981; Zbl 0469.20038)]. An example is provided which shows that weak commutativity is not necessary for \((S,\cdot,\leq)\) to be a semilattice of Archimedian subsemigroups. Using the more general concepts of weakly left (right) commutativity, corresponding decompositions into \(r\)- \((l\)-, \(t\)-) Archimedian partially ordered semigroups are obtained.
